Preparing Your Home for the Spring Real Estate Market – PART ONE
Mold and Radon Removal and Repair by 3Rs Construction & Remodeling in Salem, Oregon
Our beautiful Salem, Oregon spring is just around the corner! It’s the time of fresh starts and a renewed vigor to get things done. The birds are singing, the bees are buzzing, and kids are counting down the days left in the school year. For many, it’s also the season for putting your house on the market. That means doing projects beyond spring cleaning… it means presenting a healthy home that is in good repair and making sure your house looks its very best.
In this first part of Preparing Your Home for the Spring Real Estate Market, we’ll focus on the health and safety of your home. This really isn’t the fun part of repair, but it’s important because of the inspections that may be required for the buyer.
Two major issues for today’s healthy homes are mold and radon. Both can have dangerous effects on the human body but they each have unique methods of detection and removal.
Mold Testing & Removal
Mold is generally visible in damp places like bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and basements. (And damp places like Salem, Oregon!) If you have had any water damage, mold could be lurking inside your walls if it wasn’t repaired correctly. Another common place for mold is in the attic and you’ll need to have that checked out too.
Mold removal or remediation is a specific science that does require more than just a clean-up with bleach. At 3Rs Construction, we have trained and experienced mold technicians that know how to identify and handle mold. They will take samples for evaluation and then determine the most effective way the mold needs to be removed.
3Rs Construction owner, Duane West, wrote a three-part series on mold that has lots of specific information if you want to know more. Part three has a great list of frequently asked questions that are very helpful.
Radon Testing and Remediation
In recent years, it has been determined that the presence of radon poses a great risk of lung cancer. In fact, more than 21,000 people are killed annually because of radon gas. Unfortunately, radon is colorless, odorless and tasteless so it can go undetected unless you have your home tested or you have installed detectors.
Factors that alter the radon levels in your home could include:
- Recent major repair or remodel
- Changes to your heating, air condition or other ventilation system
- Movement in the sub-surface water table
- Erosion of the soils around your home or neighborhood.
Correcting the presence of radon is as unique as your home and surroundings. When 3Rs Construction comes to test and evaluate your circumstances, we’ll determine the appropriate solution to your radon problem.
For more details on radon mitigation, please visit the 3Rs Construction website. You will find great information on our Radon Mitigation page and in the blog Radon Remediation / Mitigation by 3Rs Construction.
