Let’s face it, we’re all getting older. Like it or not, it’s important to plan for that season of life. Just as we plan for financial retirement, we need to plan our housing needs as well.

Aging in place means planning for your freedom to live where you want, for as long as you want. Staying in the home you love may mean making remodel plans to fit your specific needs. It could also include remodeling your home to accommodate the needs of an aging parent who doesn’t want to live alone.

3Rs Construction & Remodeling, your local contractor, are there for you if you are looking to remodel for your specific needs. Contact us today!

If you’re over 40, it’s time to start planning for your future needs. If a move or remodel is in your near future, then keep your current and future physical comfort and restrictions in mind. Most people find that a single-level home is a better fit for those later years. If you would like to stay in your two story home, a remodel that includes a master bedroom, bath and laundry on the main level is a good solution. Another option is a chair list to help you or your loved ones navigate the stairs safely.

A few simple changes can really make a big difference in your ability to stay independent longer and if you consider the monthly cost of assisted living you will see that adding these features now will save you thousands in the long run. Our team at 3Rs Construction & Remodeling understands that safety doesn’t have to look institutional and knows most people prefer a safe home that is beautiful too! Our material suppliers are offering more ADA approved products as aging in place becomes more common and technology advances. 3Rs Construction can help you explore the custom fixtures and appliances available to suit your specific aging in place needs.

Hello, I’m wondering if you have familiarity with shorter base cabinets (like ADA compliant, 28″H or so) for kitchens that would result in an eventual countertop height of about 32″? Are there local cabinetmakers in Salem who do shorter base cabs, and what is the cost difference compared to standard 30″H? Thanks for your reply.

Hi Lorna, yes, we are very familiar with the shorter, more accessible height cabinets. We have custom cabinet makers in town that will make whatever heights we need. The cost is entirely dependent on what the overall measurements end up being. We would be happy to come to take a look and get you a quote.
