Bathroom Fixes and Tips
Make Your Room Feel New
If you're reading this article, chances are you're thinking that your bathroom is in dire need of a makeover. However, if you can’t afford to pull out the entire room and start over, the good news is that you can easily remodel the bathroom and get it back to looking and feeling new. In this article, we will look at the best remodeling tips and the common problems faced when installing or fixing them.
Stained Tiles
If you’re looking to remodel your tiles, keep in mind that these must be cleaned regularly. There’s nothing more off-putting than visiting a bathroom with gunk-filled tiles. Let’s not forget that mold easily shows up on tiles too, which is a problem as the moisture from your bathroom could easily lead to a mold breakout, which in turn could make the room a health hazard for your family. This is why it is always a good idea to remodel your bathroom by changing the tiles. Not only will it clean up the bathroom it can also completely change the look.
One problem homeowners often face is choosing the right tiles. Asia One’s post on bathroom renovation recommends that homeowners veer away from white tiles and grout lines, as these are the most troublesome to clean. Furthermore, choosing wider tiles helps minimize the areas where dirt can get stuck. Indeed, your choice in bathroom tiling ends up affecting how much work it takes to maintain your bathroom’s cleanliness. So remember to choose wisely!

Clogged Drains
This is the most common problem that crops up in bathrooms, and is often the reason why a bathroom needs to have some work done to it. The Spruce lists a whole host of factors that can contribute to a clogged toilet, be it a blocked toilet trap, some items wrongly flushed down the drain, or problems with the sewer lines themselves. If your toilet isn’t working this needs to be fixed immediately as it can lead to an expensive and messy situation.
The same applies to your bath and shower pipes. Thankfully, most blockages in the pipes can be easily remedied without the need to call in a professional. In HomeServe’s guide to unblocking your bath and shower drains they explain that all you need for a homemade remedy is a pair of gloves, baking soda, vinegar, and something to scrape the gunk off (like a coat hanger). Clear the drains as best you can using a coat hanger and then add the baking soda and vinegar. Once the fizzing stops flush out the pipe with boiling water. If that doesn’t work, you can use something stronger. However, keep in mind that drain cleaners should be a last resort, as these have the potential to ruin your pipes (which would be costly to replace and undo all the good work you have done with the remodeling).
For preventative measures, be sure to fit each plughole with a hair drain filter to prevent future blockages. Getting your bath and shower working properly again is the perfect way to remodel your bathroom without buying a brand new bath or shower.
3Rs Construction Recommendation:
Use this great little tool called a drain cleaning stick. You can pick them up from your local home supply store. They are safe for your plumbing and very inexpensive.
Storage Space
What differentiates between a good bathroom and a great one? The answer is storage space. Our Bathroom Repair and Remodel guide lists storage space as a common issue that homeowners deal with, whether it’s storing your extra-fluffy towels or your hygiene items.
The problem is that you can’t just fit a closet or a cabinet into your bathroom: you must carefully consider its layout in order to see what kind of storage solution fits best. Smaller items like wall hooks or over-the-door shelves add functionality to your space without talking up valuable floor space, while stacked shelves can also be installed with minimal fuss. As with the tiling tip above, just be sure to clean these items every now and again to avoid mold build-up!
A proper bathroom remodeling job is possible (and even enjoyable) with the right tips and tools in mind. Keep these common problems in mind, and just have fun with it. Good luck!
