No doubt, you’ve been hearing a lot about Coronavirus and it’s spread throughout China and other countries.

CDC is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus that was first detected in China and which has now been detected in almost 70 locations internationally, including in the United States. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19).  (CDC, Virus Background 3/6/2020)

ONE: Cleaning the Uncleanable

When cold and flu season arrives, most of us are cautious about staying healthy by practicing good hygiene and covering our mouths when we cough or sneeze. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try, we may pick up a bug anyway! Germs and bacteria are everywhere and since we can’t see them, we can’t know for sure we are safe. The problem is that by using traditional cleaning methods, it's not easy or even possible to effectively disinfect every surface in a room. Some of those problem areas are upholstery, artwork, bookshelves, carpet, and garages.

Fortunately, there is a process called Thermal Fogging. This treatment is a safe and effective way to clean what normally can’t be cleaned. 3Rs Construction is equipped to come to your home or business and utilize our thermal fogging process to clean your environment. This is a great option for preventing the exposure of viruses to people who are at greater risk of infection. Many responsible business owners, out of an abundance of caution, are proactively thermal fogging their offices and workplaces to protect their employees, staff, and customers.

TWO: Be Proactive to Help Prevent Exposure to COVID-19 and Other Viruses

Known viruses usually have some kind vaccine to help prevent spreading the illness. In cases of unknown viruses and when a vaccine is not used it is important to follow these common preventive actions:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.
    • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
    • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to  others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. (If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.)  (CDC, Protect Yourself & Others)

People at High Risk

Older adults and people who have severe chronic medical conditions like heart, lung or kidney disease seem to be at higher risk for more serious COVID-19 illness. Early data suggest older people are twice as likely to have serious COVID-19 illness. This may be because:

  • As people age, their immune systems change, making it harder for their body to fight off diseases and infection.
  • Many older adults are also more likely to have underlying health conditions that make it harder to cope with and recover from illness.”  (CDC, Who is at Higher Risk)
